Boston Terriers make the ideal companion dog, whilst small and robust these canines are primarily bred nowadays as a companion. Lively and incredibly intelligent, it is key to start training early with your Boston, and both you and your dog will benefit.
Lovely little lounge lizards, Boston’s are happiest laying by their humans side and watching the television. The Boston is a loyal dog that will rarely be far from the side of their owner; given the opportunity they will even follow you to the bathroom if you let them! Protective of their home and family, the Boston Terrier makes a good little watch dog.
Grooming your Boston Terrier
Minimal grooming is required for the short and smooth coat of the Boston Terrier. Wipe over the face, and under the eyes with a towel once a week. Low shedding coat, that rarely requires bathing.
Training your Boston Terrier
Boston Terriers are smart and make quick learners. A firm but gentle hand, aided with consistency will show progress. Willing to please, and very alert makes training sessions a breeze, keep to small frequent sessions in order to maintain focus.
History of the Boston Terrier
Earned the label as ‘The American Gentleman’, with their tuxedo like markings, the Boston Terrier has won the hearts of many. Irrespective of the name, Bostons are not technically a true terrier. Bostons were not bred to go to ground, and to hunt game, nor are they classified as terriers in the show ring. Origins stem to the now extinct White English Terrier, and the British Bulldog.
