Personality, characteristics and temperament
French Bulldogs and Pugs both make great family pets and companions, that are at ease being a low maintenance lounge lizard, and are happiest by the side of their humans. The Frug is a happy dog, that many refer to as being little clowns, and having human like qualities - though they won't get up and make you a coffee, they will surely follow you to the kitchen (occasionally grumble at your feet), and guide you back to the lounge to watch the television. The way they sit on the lounge and look at you, whilst watching the TV, they seem so aware and a true member of the family. Content and easy to please, give your Frug food and love and they will be happy for life. These guys are such entertainment, you can watch them for hours. The Frug will be more than willing to spend the day with you at work, or join you down by the beach, making the perfect companion.
Easy going and docile pets, that enjoy playing and get along well with children. Sweet and loving, these affectionate little dogs prefer to be close to their humans. Calm and gentle, the Frug is generally a quiet dog. They will not bark unnecessarily, but still make a good watch dog and will warn you of strangers or out of place noises throughout the night.
Though your Frug will be happy to accompany you wherever you may go, keep in mind this brachycephalic (short-snout, squishy-face) type dog cannot be over worked. Avoid over exercising in general, and walking on hot days, as this can exhaust your dog - resulting in heat stroke, and sometimes worse. Likewise, make sure your dog always has fresh water, and a way to cool off and calm down on those hot summer days.
Grooming the Frug
Frugs are pretty straight forward and basic in regards to grooming. A monthly bath, and the occasional brush is all your Frug requires. If you bath your dog too frequently, this can dry out their natural bodily oils and cause skin irritations. Use a puppy dry shampoo for in-between washes, too keep your Frug funky fresh! A good quality and balanced diet, will keep your dogs coat nice and shiny.
Training your Frug
Food driven and eager to please, the Frug has the potential to be a great student, and learn a lot from their master. Make sure they know from the beginning, that you are their master - and that they are not the boss. Keep your Frug motivated with positive reinforcement and food rewards. Make sure to keep your puppy focused, and if they begin to get bored, or become distracted - give them a break. Training sessions that are short and sweet are the most fun for you and your puppy. Establish the pack leader from the beginning, make sure that you eat before you feed your puppy. And make sure that you enter the room first, and that they follow - rather than the other way around. This will establish their place within the home. We recommend puppy pre school for all puppies - this will aid socialisation for your baby, and teach basic obedience, in conjunction with the things you need to know when owning a dog.
