What is a 'Cavocker' or a 'Cockalier'?
A cross breed between the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Cocker Spaniel (may be English or American Cocker Spaniel) has been referred to often as a Cavocker or a Cockalier. It is a hybrid, and the result of mixing the two Spaniel breeds together. The mother or the father may be of either Cavalier or Cocker, or already a mix of the two breeds themselves. The two Spaniels compliment each other well - and the resulting offspring are often of a hardy nature with a friendly and laid back disposition. The Cavalier and the Cocker Spaniel maintain fairly similar features and attributes to each other, and most (though not all) are of a more stocky and robust build like the Cocker, the soft features of the Spaniel result in a beautiful and majestic appearance.

Personality, characteristics and temperament
The Spaniel is a reliable family pet. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and Cocker Spaniels are tow of the most popular Spaniel breeds, as Australian family pets. They display gentle, easy going and placid natures. The Cockalier is gentle with children, and can get along well with other household pets. Friendly and intelligent, this is a dog who is very eager and willing to please. This is a dog who will enjoy outings, walks and social events - as much as they will laying on the lounge or helping to keep you company whilst doing some gardening.
The cross of the Cavalier and Cocker Spaniel creates a dog with more hybrid vigour, though maintains the sweet and calm disposition of the dogs. Loyal and faithful to its family, the Cockalier will be cautious of strange sounds and unusual activity in the evening. They will make a good watch dog, and bark if necessary - though they are not an attack dog, and they will not act out aggressively.
Loving and entertaining, the Spaniel has a well earned place in the heart of many. Their smile and joy that they bring is unforgettable, and unlike many other. An excellent choice for a first time dog, experienced owner, from city and suburban through to rural and country life. Difficult to go wrong with such a dog as this. The Cockalier is a great companion dog whom seeks human companionship, and is happy to be inside or out, they are happiest when they are by your side.
Grooming your Cockalier
This is a dog that will naturally shed its hair and not require regular clipping. The luscious coat of the Spaniel cross breed will thrive and glisten with brushing and shampooing, which can be done from home. To lessen maintenance of a lengthier coat, some families may choose to clip or shave the coat back twice a year. A Furminator will be an excellent tool for families owning this type of dog, and will reduce shedding by up to 90% (we use it for our own dogs, and swear by it).
Training your Cockalier
This is a dog who will excel in training and obedience classes, due to their willingness to please their master, and eager to learn nature. Though this is a dog with a gentle demeanour, they can be competitive in canine sports such as dock dogs. The breed loves the water and enjoys to swim and paddle when given the opportunity. Early socialisation and training is key, and consistency will see your dog learn quickly. Puppy preschool is highly recommended for socialisation, early obedience training - and allows your puppy to become familiar with a veterinary environment.
