Meet the parents!
LilyF1 Cavador
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel x Labrador Retriever Yellow Lily is as sweet and charming, as she is playful, cuddly and affectionate. The big dog, that's trapped in a little dogs body! The perfect blend of both Cavalier and Labrador, the Cavador can often exceed 30-35kg once mature - Lily was selectively chosen and bred, for her health, temperament, and size. With her happy go lucky nature, compact stature, sociable and switched on personality - we look forward to the next generation of our Miniature Retriever project. |
Waldo3/4 English Cocker Spaniel 1/4 Beagle
(75% Cocker Spaniel 25% Beagle) Cream/Gold - Chocolate/Liver Coloured Nose, Hazel Eyes Waldo is our handsome 3/4 Cocker Spaniel 1/4 Beagle (F1b Speagle). Waldo's mother was a first cross Cocker Spaniel x Beagle, and his father a pure bred English Cocker Spaniel. Waldo is our big sooky baby, with the most gentle and sensitive soul. He has the kindest heart, and adores every dog whom he meets - just wanting to be friends; and love and be loved by every one of his canine pals. Waldo loves playing with puppies too, and is so smitten with his babies. Waldo loves to be brushed and cuddled, and is a real sweetheart |

What to expect?
This breeding has the potential to produce both long haired and short haired puppies - so whether you prefer the Miniature Retriever version of either the Lab or the Golden - there is the chance of this litter having the perfect puppy for you!
Colour will vary from light cream through to yellow and gold.
Mature size is expected to be in the 10-20kg range, where majority of the puppies will likely balance 15kg and under - though some puppies maturing on the smaller end of the spectrum and others will fall on the bigger side of this.
The genetic makeup of these selectively bred puppies will be as follows:
25% Labrador Retriever 25% Cavalier King Charles Spaniel 37.5% English Cocker Spaniel 12.5% Beagle
This unique blend is our very own, specific to our gene pool and breeding program.
The "Cottage Retriever" is the perfect pet for a House Dog!
This carefully selected breeding strives to produce a dog with the physical attributes of the Retriever's, whilst maturing to half the size - and reducing health concerns that are more commonly associated with the larger breed dogs (such as hip dysplasia, and certain types of cancers). Though no dog has life long immunity to health complications, ensuring our dogs are DNA tested and have passed heir Veterinary examinations, that our larger breeds have been hip and elbow scored, and that all are of sound temperament - is absolutely imperative.
Further crossbreeding allowing for a wider genetic diversity and improved hybrid vigour.

"Everybody deserves a little comfort"
- Kathy Burgess, Founder of GoldenQuest (Kentucky), innovator for the "Comfort Retriever", dating back to 2003 -
We are incredibly pleased and proud to announce, after many years in the making and working on the concept of a smaller sized Retriever type dog - our very own litter of Mini Comfort Retriever Project!
In collaboration with Kannandah Canines x Cottage Canines, we have produced this outstanding litter of little golden nuggets.
Originating in the US, to create a smaller version of the Golden Retriever - while maintaining their big and loveable personality.
In Canada, the Comfort Retriever breeding programs are working and being bred for therapy dog purposes.
With the adoring intuition and placid, affectionate, yet sociable nature of the Cavalier (and small size of course); and the confident, fun loving, loyal, happy, and driven Retriever.
The purpose of this mix is to create an all round dog, with robustness and zest for life of the Retriever, who is eager to please and thrives when given work and a purpose - combined with the gentle, intuitive, loving, and smaller sized traits of the Spaniel.
Though some breeding programs are using Poodles primarily for their own versions and variations of the Comfort Retriever - we have selectively bred and chosen to avoid introducing the Poodle genes in to our Mini Retriever Project.
Though we certainly love and adore our Poodles and Doodles, the traits aren't in line with what we have been aiming and working towards producing with our own Mini Retriever Project.
Not your everyday dog, this is a rare opportunity - and though the Comfort Retriever and Golden Cavalier is more stable in America as far as numbers and availability goes, there are restricted and very limited opportunities for Australian's to welcome their own Comfort Retriever home.
With very few Golden Retriever's and Labrador Retrievers being crossed with smaller breeds on Aussie shores - unfortunately, other breeders are not carrying out health testing to the same high standard as one would hope for and expect (and of which we are meeting), for fear of what the results may reveal and determine that dogs obtained with the intention of breeding, are in fact are affected by or carrying hereditary and congenital genetic traits, which should not be bred from and passed on.
Comfort Retrievers & Mini Retriever's are incredibly sort after, however rarely come available for another reason - due to difficulty of successfully breeding dogs of varying sizes together.
The mother must be the Retriever or Retriever cross, and as true Spaniels are not big or boisterous enough to mate the bigger dogs naturally - carefully and precisely timed artificial insemination is required.
With an excessive number of applicants over the years, this is opportunity is not to be missed for those of you whom have been searching and waiting.
Please be mindful and considerate, that if you would not consider a pure bred Retriever, then a Retriever cross breed is likely not a suitable choice for your home. Though some of the Comfort Retrievers and Mini Retrievers are closer to (and at times under) the 20kg range, many can mature to, and/or exceed 30kg.
This beautiful breeding has been in the planning for some time - and we are ecstatic to finally have these gorgeous puppies in our arms.
Our expressions of interest form will remain open, until the puppies are spoken for.
