What is a 'Pugalier'?
A cross between a Pug and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is commonly known as a 'Pugalier'. This is not a pure bred dog, but is recognised as a common mix breed, and can often be identified walking down the street. The Pugalier is often bred from a Cavalier mother (less commonly requiring caesarians, unlike the Pug) and a Pug father. At times, the mother may be a Pugalier herself - and regardless as to whether she is mated to another Pugalier, a Pug, or a Cavalier, the offspring will still be referred to as a Pugalier - though the appearance of the puppies will vary, depending on the genes inherited. Some Pugaliers closely resemble the Pug, some the Cavalier - and others as they mature and develop, may only seem to pick up certain characteristics of either parent. Keeping in mind that the Pugalier is a cross breed, puppies can even vary within the litter. To get an indication of what to expect, you can see some of our past Pugalier puppies featured in the gallery at the bottom of this page. Below are images depicting a pure Pug and a pure Cavalier, where the traits the Pugalier exhibit, are derived from.

Pugalier Colours
The Pugalier may inherit a short or long hair coat, and there are an array of colours inheritable - from the black or fawn (and sometimes apricot or silver) of the Pug, through to blenheim, black and tan, tricolour and ruby colourings of the Cavalier. Occasionally offspring will inherit a sable type gene, where the coat is richer and darker in colour than the fawn. We produce a range of colours and coat types, and have raised puppies from first cross (bred from Pure Pug and Pure Cavalier), in addition to multigenration Pugaliers. Within the Pugaliers our breeders favour, some are more 'Puggy' with 75% Pug, and other litters as strong as 90% Pug. We have also had puppies from a Pugalier and Cavalier parent, producing less Pug like features and more Cavalier qualities. Below are some of our colours and coat types produced.

A bit about the Pugalier
Both Pugs and Cavaliers are prefect companion dogs, that enjoy attention and human affection. The cross of the two breeds provides many health benefits, thanks to their wide gene pool unlike their pure bred counterparts. Pugaliers are very healthy and happy little dogs, with lesser health risks and concerns than the pure bred Pug or Cavalier. Creating a cross between the two breeds, the Pugalier aquires the best of both admirable traits from its parents, leaving less desirable traits behind.
Pugaliers have a fantastic temperament, like their parents. Calm and easy going, this affectionate loves to be by their humans side. Your Pugalier will enjoy a run along the beach by your side, or to lay down on the lounge watching television. They are happiest when by your side, though easy going and laid back.
Grooming
Grooming will depend on the coat type of your Pugalier, those with a short Pug like coat will require an occasional wipe over with a damp cloth. Those with the longer Cavalier coat will require a weekly brush or comb. Do not bathe either coat type more frequently than once a month, this can dry out natural bodily oils and cause skin irritations.
Training
Laid back and easy to please, makes training a breeze! Though most are food driven, positive reinforcement is also key when it comes to successful training. Willing to learn, keep training to short and consistent sessions to maintain focus.
